Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and oversight to the management team to drive the business towards profitable and sustainable growth
- Articulate and oversee the translation of high-level corporate strategies and growth plans into business and operational strategies
- Create an enabling environment that empowers management and staff to develop the capability to achieve set goals and objectives and proactively respond to opportunities and challenges in the business environment
- Build and nurture strategic relationships with the relevant industry, government and/or regulatory bodies while ensuring that the organisation’s interests are presented and protected
- Shape the definition of sustainability and social responsibility within the organisation and lead the adoption of the appropriate culture to entrench sustainable and socially responsible practices
- Provide the leadership necessary for generating growth for the exchange while ensuring efficient and effective coordination of employees, and strategic partners that includes brokers, buying and selling agents, local contractors etc.
- Manage the overall performance of the exchange evidenced by return on investment, growth in revenue and profitability.
- Develop and implement strategies towards deepening market penetration and achieving sustainable growth and profitability.
- Ensure that the business actions, plans, and goals uphold the organisation’s reputation for quality and integrity.
- Forge and maintains strategic alliances on behalf of the organisation.
- Ensure prudent management of resources by presenting transparent financial results to the Board of all incomes and expenditures of the organisation on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.
- Provide for adequate management succession by liaising and mentoring business executives within each division and department
- Ensure that competent people are in critical roles and establish a process for continuous people development to maintain an adequate supply of quality talent to meet operational needs
- Ensure the alignment of business operations with exchange’s vision, mission and strategic goals and recommend staffing of key executive management positions to the Board (C-Suite) as well as oversee the end-to-end process of attracting highest possible quality talents.
- Ensure strict compliance to regulatory, governance and ethical matters in the commodities market
- Maintain awareness of the competitive market landscape, expansion opportunities and industry developments, etc.
- Report to the Board of Directors on the activities of the organisation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Science discipline
- MBA or relevant Masters’ degree
- A recognised and relevant professional certification
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience within the Africa region or other global markets. This should cover the Stock Market, Agricultural Commodity Exchange Market, Financial Services Industry, Supply Chain Management or businesses involved in Agricultural Commodity Marketing and Trade.
- Relevant work experience in an executive management role
- Demonstrable track record leading at a strategic level while driving sustainable growth
- Strategic thinker with potential to devise and deliver long term, complex projects
- In-depth understanding and practical knowledge of the Agricultural Commodity Exchange Market.
- Proven experience in leading transformation and change programmes in a medium to large-sized organisation
- Sound background building and nurturing relationships with strategic clients.
- Demonstrable marketing, selling, relationship management and public relations skills.
